There hasn’t been a redesign to the Volvo XC90 since 2002, a gap between redesigns that is almost unheard of in the automobile world.

But Volvo always felt that they hit all of the right points when they created the last generation of the XC90, and it’s easy to see why. Quickly becoming one of their most popular cars in their entire lineup, this Swedish automaker didn’t find a whole lot that needed to be changed in the last 13 years.

However, they’ve come up with a couple of new features – and a whole bunch of new performance elements – that elevates the 2015 Volvo XC90 to the next level.

Specifications

One of the major changes to this line of Volvo SUVs is the introduction of dual powertrains, available for the first time in the XC90 lineup.

Drivers are going to have the opportunity to go forward with the T6 powertrain, leveraging a 316 hp turbocharged and supercharged 2.0 L four-cylinder engine that really provides quite a bit of "get up and go" - especially since it’s going to be mated to an eight speed automatic transmission. This model is all-wheel-drive, and is one of the most fuel efficient all-wheel-drive vehicles on the market today.

Drivers will also be able to take advantage of the T8 powertrain. This is the “twin engine” model of the 2015 Volvo XC90, combining the 2.0 L four-cylinder engine mentioned above with an electric hybrid engine that really stretches in the fuel efficiency while still providing a lot of power and torque when necessary.

The hybrid engine also introduces a brand-new all electric 82 hp electronic motor attached to the rear axle, replacing the old mechanical all-wheel-drive system.

Exterior/Interior Styling

The exterior (and the interior) of the new 2015 Volvo XC90 is something really special, and is going to turn heads all over the road.

Everything about the new exterior has been crafted with style and function in mind, but the Volvo reputation for being incredibly safe vehicles is safe and sound with the changes that they’ve made.

The handling and driving performance of the Volvo XC90 is exceptional, thanks in large part to the introduction of new rollover prevention design suspensions and electronic chassis customizations.

The new automatic braking system kicks in whenever a car crosses into the “drive path” of this car, and the off-road suspension mode provides the performance boosts the drivers have been looking for since 2002.
